Orpington Rugby Football Club

Click to enlarge Orpington Rugby Football Club was formed in 1926 and then reformed in 1969. The reformation was organised by individuals who formed a local pub side, who built their own Clubhouse. They also rented the new changing rooms that Bromley Council built alongside.

The club has gone from strength to strength and has become a Community asset in the Cray’s area.

Four years ago some of the senior members decided to start a Youth Section (mainly to accommodate their own off springs) that section has grown every year and now boast 80+ local children playing at four age group levels. As the club grows in numbers, its target is to get players playing games at all age groups from under 7’s to under 17’s.
The club enjoys the support of over 20 coaches and all the coaches have been trained by the RFU to At least Level one of the RFU coaching structure. Also all the coaches have now been checked by the CRB (Criminal Records Bureau). This is part of the RFU’s (Rugby Football Union) drive to have good quality, certified coaching members.

Facilities

Click to enlarge Orpington RFC owns its own Clubhouse and uses adjacent changing room facilities of the London Borough of Bromley. The clubhouse boasts a full size, welcoming bar and also a kitchen facility to supply snacks and basket style meals. With a Dance floor area, pool table and large screen Sky television the club has all facilities to entertain and amuse both young & old, Rugby players and social members.

Orpington also has two full size Rugby pitches, which have a banked side, which forms a great viewing location to watch the games.
The pitches are maintained by the council but are managed by a committee of club members and local football members, this ensures that the pitches are keep in superb playing condition for all teams to enjoy.

The main pitch also has floodlights that are used for training sessions and plans are afoot for new lights to light up a bigger area.

Click to enlarge Changing rooms are able to accept 10 teams and also has the facility for Ladies changing in private. Showers are available.

The surrounding grounds also boast three football pitches and the plan is to enlarge the sports facilities to include Netball in the future.

All the facilities are well maintained and welcoming to sportsmen and social members at all times.
